We all know, of course, that Texas A&M will be joining the SEC for football next season. But despite signs earlier in the day that he might be safe, at least one reporter says that head coach Mike Sherman will not be coming with them.
Bohls says in another tweet that Kevin Sumlin would be the top choice for the Aggies, but they might have a fight on their hands. Rumors have flown saying that Ole Miss and Arizona State are in various states of wooing the Houston coach, and the Cougars would presumably also fight to retain him.
If this report is true, it will be interesting to see whether the SEC ties make the A&M job attractive to some candidates that they might not have been able to reel in as a Big 12 member. (Or whether it will deter some coaches from coming there because of the competition level.)
Then again, maybe it's time for A&M to prove it is really committed to the SEC. There's only one way to do that: Hire Houston Nutt.
