So what will happen when Boise State plays Ole Miss?

Bumped from the FanPosts. Why not discuss it on an otherwise slow Monday? -Year2

Now that the game is scheduled for 2011, how does the SEC feel or think will happen? Boise State will still have Kellen Moore but they lose a lot of players after this season. I think BSU has never beaten a Southeastern Conference team. Last time they played an SEC team was Georgia, and it was a beatdown. They even have a word for that game. They got Zabranskyed. Meaning: a team that plays a weak schedule then plays someone good and gets beat bad. I believe they will do much better because Kellen M. is a much better qb than Jared Zabransky. (last year: 39 TDs, 3 INTs) and Ole Miss probably won't be as good as Georgia was, so it could be an interesting game? What do you think will happen?

A FanPost gives the opinion of the fan who writes it and that fan only. That doesn't give the opinion more or less weight than any other opinion on this blog, but the post does not necessarily reflect the view of TSK's writers.

I think it will be a good game.

The Boise program, while still far from having the talent that, say, a Florida or ‘Bama has, has gotten a lot better since those beatdowns against UGA, USC, and Arkansas. Back then, it was a good mid-major program that could dominate its conference, but it couldn’t hang with BCS-level teams. That’s not the case anymore, as witnessed by their recent wins over ranked BCS teams. Their win over Oklahoma a few years ago put them on the map, so to speak, and they’ve been able to start putting together better recruiting classes. I expect that will continue both because of the program’s new visibility as well as the fact that their coach doesn’t appear to be interested in using the job as a stepping stone. I still don’t think they’re as talented as Ole Miss, but the difference is probably primarily one of depth, and with the game coming early in the season, depth might not come into play very much. All in all, the game has the makings of a classic. And you’d better believe that Boise will be gunning for the upset. They’re the team with nothing to lose here. If they lose the game, it just means they’ve not come as a far as we thought. If they win, though, it would be huge for them.

By 2011

I’m not sure sure it would be considered an upset. Depending on how they finish out this year.

Given that Boise State looks like a preseason top ten team (and maybe top five team), has won two BCS bowls, and will look largely the same in 2011 as in 2010, it will likely be seen nationally as an upset if Ole Miss wins and not the other way around.

It's nice to see boise state get a few props on an sec blog

I am a mwc fan and espn has reported when the mwc powers that be meet in june their will be an invite. it has to happen by july 1st, 2010 and accepted by them. that is why i like boise state plus they are the best covering the spread team in the last 14 years. nobody is even close to them.

agreed

However, BSU will be breaking in a new QB. Not that may matter since RS Freshman Kellen Moore went to Eugune and beat Oregon.

I'm excited for this game.

I hated playing Memphis at the beginning of every season. I was so nervous because we had a chance at losing to a team to which we had no business losing. Now, Boise State is a quality opponent. I have no clue what will happen in Oxford on that hot September day, but I like our chances. Nutt will have a year to break in a new quarterback and offense, and all of our offensive line starters will return for the following season which is always good. We won’t lose much on offense from the 2010 squad, but we’ll lose considerable amounts on the defensive side of the ball. Hopefully Kellen Moore doesn’t have a hay-day with our secondary.

I'm glad to see the game.

But I’m still wishing they play a powerhouse team. LSU, UF, Alabama ect…. If the beat Ole Miss, all im going to hear is “Well, the SEC is weak because BSU beat Ole Miss….” Or that beating Ole Miss atomatically makes BSU better than anyone in the SEC.

That wasn't collusion

That was all the Fiesta Bowl trying to become the first non-championship game to have two undefeated teams. The order of selection for BCS at large teams went thusly:

*Sugar takes Florida to replace Bama
*Fiesta takes TCU to replace Texas
*Orange takes Iowa for the Big Ten fan base
*Fiesta takes Boise State for double undefeated status
*Sugar takes Cincinnati because no one’s left

Unless you’re asking the Sugar to give up having an SEC team or the Orange to select a smaller fan base from farther away, then things wouldn’t have changed. The arrangement sucked, but it wasn’t collusion.

Cincinnati clearly got rolled. Georgia Tech, Oregon, and Texas all arguably got rolled. By no reasonable definition did Texas Christian get rolled.

the game came down to two plays. boise punter threw perfect pass.

tcu receiver mistimed his jump for what would have been the tieing score. it was a close game.

I'd like to think that opening the 2005 season . . .

. . . against the eventual SEC champion, that finished the year with a double-digit win total for the fourth year in a row and attended its third SEC championship game in a four-year period, qualified as playing a powerhouse team.

I'm always reminded of the quote

That the Boise St. player made to a local newspaper the following year, when discussing an easier schedule and a better chance for going undefeated: (from memory) “At least we don’t have any dragons to slay, like Georgia last year.” I guess Oklahoma didn’t count (yes, that wasn’t “scheduled,” but give me my biases).

I noticed you “borrowed” a word from the good Senator’s new lexicon and forgot to link. I thought that was protocol for the blogosphere so I thought I’d help out and let everybody know the origin of the word.

BTW I don’t see Boise being favored in this game. They’ll be on the road against a league they’ve never really been competitive against. Not saying they can’t win, but I seriously doubt they’ll be favored.

hawaii played two fcs schools the season they played georgia in sugar bowl. i guess the wac should stop playing the georgia bulldogs. although georgia has been a good bowl team for quite awhile.

Not Peterson, per se, the assistants.

Lost the DC this year. Who knows after next year? And, just ask UF about the value of a good asst coaching staff…or, more saliently, Bobby Bowden.

I personally think FSU will win more games under jimbo fisher. that's b/c they were young last year

so i expect alot from FSU this year. Boise state did lose one assistant but let’s see what they do this year. I think if they beat va. tech. and don’t get the injury bug they will go undefeated again. That could be good news if they reach the bcs ncg for that year but they probably lose more than one assistant if that happens for the following year.
