BlogPoll: Bama Stays at No. 1; LSU, Georgia Slide in Week 4

A look at this week's BlogPoll results and what they say about the SEC teams involved.

John Reed-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

It looks like the BlogPoll voters were no more impressed with LSU's showing than the balloters for the SEC Power Poll this week; the Bayou Bengals dropped two spots after their two-point win against Auburn, with Oregon and Florida State climbing after their relatively convincing victories.

South Carolina, Florida and Mississippi State all got nice bumps, as you can see, though Mississippi State jumping three spots based on a 20-point win over a team that's not even a full-fledged member of the Sun Belt yet seems to have more to do with other teams not impressing than anything else. And their ranking is more contentious than anyone else in the SEC, which is pretty amazing when you consider Florida got a first-place vote.

Georgia's one-spot drop seems to have more to do with Florida State's impressive win over Clemson than the Dawgs' own performance against Vanderbilt, a 45-point beatdown with which it is hard to find much fault.

No. 13 for Southern Cal strikes me as a bit high, and No. 23 for Rutgers a bit low. But preseason expectations have sway even among bloggers, it seems. And whoever is still voting for Tennessee puzzles me a little bit, but sure, have fun with that approach.
