In news that quite frankly should surprise nobody, Jalen Hurts may be on the move.
The Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback has reportedly entered himself into the NCAA’s transfer database. Barton Simmons of CBS Sports reported the news on Wednesday afternoon, and it was later corroborated by Alex Scarborough of ESPN and The Athletic’s Cecil Hurt.
This shouldn’t be too surprising news, as we said. Hurts was long considered a transfer candidate, starting right after Tua Tagovailoa replaced him in the second half of last year’s College Football Playoff Championship Game. Tua was the starter all year this year for the Tide, and Hurts stayed quiet as a backup. He starred in the SEC Championship, helping to bring ‘Bama ahead of the Georgia Bulldogs in almost a poetic moment of symmetry after Tagovailoa was injured. But obviously, Hurts still should have every right to go better himself and land a starting role elsewhere.
There will likely be plenty of suitors for him if he indeed does decide to transfer away from Alabama. The list of schools who’d take on a National Championship-winning quarterback and a former SEC Offensive Player of the Year is pretty high, we’d reckon. Best of luck to Hurts in whatever comes next.
