Akers, ranked as the second-best at his position in the Class of 2017 behind Alabama commit Najee Harris, is officially headed to Tallahassee next fall and will likely serve as the replacement for the incomparable Dalvin Cook who is surely headed for the pros following the Orange Bowl.
Akers is also the top player in his home state and ranked fourth overall in the nation behind the aforementioned Harris, offensive tackle Foster Sarell of Graham, Washington, and defensive tackle Marvin Wilson of Bellaire, Texas.
Akers had his pick of the litter, with schools ranging from FSU to Ole Miss, Tennessee to Georgia with Alabama and others in pursuit of the 2017 tailback. In the end, the Rebels, Volunteers and other schools of the SEC are on the outside looking in at The Sunshine State as the ‘Noles have acquired quite the talent.
FSU had been in the lead before things wavered a bit, but a late surge went Jimbo Fisher’s way and as they say: The rest is history.
Fear not though Ole Miss fans: As Red Cup Rebellion reminds us, the Rebels are still in position to pick up some high-profile recruits.
