Why is it that College Gameday's guest picker is the thing I'm most looking forward to Saturday? I guess that explains what this show has done for the sport of college football over the years, what the show has built. College Gameday previews the day full of football like the wedge salad previews the steak you'll have at Como Steakhouse tomorrow night in Oxford, spectacularly.
It'll be the first trip the boys -- in Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, Chris Fowler and Lee Corso -- have taken to the University of Mississippi and it's hype has added to a game that honestly didn't need it one bit. Where will the Gameday set be? What Ole Miss traditions will be featured on the set? And yes, our favorite question, who will be the guest picker?
I've heard everything from former Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning (who actually can't) to Fox News's Shephard Smith. I've even heard names such as Morgan Freeman -- who does make his home in Mississippi -- and Michael Oher's parents, Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy thrown out there. It could go the football route, it could go the alumni route, and it could even go the tossup route in Sela Ward, who went to Alabama and lives in Mississippi.
For anyone thinking Archie Manning will be College GameDay guest picker - he can't b/c of playoff committee rules. Can't talk about teams.

So when Gameday takes center stage in The Grove on Saturday, I'll be on the edge of my seat waiting for my clock to hit 11:30 and you will too. Question is, who do I predict will pick games on the set?
Well, I predict it will be Shephard Smith. Who do I want it to be? Cooper Manning, a dark horse in the race to be Gameday's guess picker in Oxford. Cooper Manning would be the perfect man for the job. A former athlete, a funny guy, a Manning -- he's the textbook guess picker -- and yes, there's such thing.
Cooper Manning deserves to be the guess picker, why? Good question, who knows why anyone should deserve to be the guess picker. But I guess he's funny, he's handsome, and he looks no different than Eli or Peyton, so why not:
Shephard Smith would be good, too, and Sela Ward, and Morgan Freeman, and every other celebrity guest picker that's up for selection by ESPN.
Truth is, it's all in good fun and it makes all of it fun, so it truly has become one of the staples to the college football Saturday. Who do I want? Cooper Manning. But the better question, who would you like to see on ESPN Saturday?
