On the heels of a tough road loss to Penn State, Auburn looks to get back on track Saturday afternoon against Sun Belt foe Georgia State.
Georgia State came away with its first win of the season last week, defeating Charlotte, 20-7. Quarterback Darren Grainger went 6/12 with 139 passing yards and two touchdowns to one interception, while running back Jamyest Williams added seven carries for 73 yards and a touchdown.
Perhaps the biggest key to Auburn’s success the rest of the season will be if Bo Nix can find a level of consistent play. Nix went 21/37 for 185 yards against Penn State, and while the Nittany Lions have a good defense, that won’t cut it for Nix in SEC play. Tank Bigsby had a great game last week, as he does, but when push comes to shove, Nix has to be better.
The good news is that Georgia State should provide an opportunity for Nix to reset and get back on track. Georgia State has allowed 220 passing yards per game this season, but the caveats are that one game was against Army and one was the 20-7 win over Charlotte. The other game, a 59-17 loss to North Carolina, saw Sam Howell throw for over 350 yards and three touchdowns.
