Tyler Badie and Co. will have their hands full in Chestnut Hill on Saturday. The Missouri Tigers will deal with the Boston College Eagles in a first-time-ever matchup between the two programs. Badie has been incredible this season for the Tigers and he will need to continue to be as the competition only gets tougher and tougher starting on Saturday against the Eagles.

The Eagles lost starting quarterback Phil Jurkovec to injury, a tough blow for someone who had been very productive under center. So head coach Jeff Hafley turned to Dennis Grosel, who looked pretty good in his opening act against UMass. Grosel however struggled mightily against Temple, only completing five of his 13 passes for 34 yards. He’s a quarterback that Missouri needs to be able to shut down if they have any goals of having any sort of success this season.
They should be able to sell out against the run because the BC run game has been very good at times. For the Tigers to come out with a win, Pat Garwo III’s numbers need to look more like they did against Temple - 16 carries for 49 yards - than his numbers against UMass - 15 carries for 160. This will be a test to see if this defense in CoMO has made any sort of stride against the ground game. Just watch out for Zay Flowers, as he has legitimate NFL talent out at receiver and is averaging 21.3 yards per catch.
Defensively, the Eagles are very good. This isn’t any sort of surprise as Hafley had led that fantastic 2019 Ohio State defense. The Eagles are only giving up about 10 points per game. They shut out Colgate and held Temple to just three points. UMass was able to put 28 on them, and the Minutemen were able to do so with a competent ground game. And while they got some inefficient QB play, they were able to hit some shots downfield. Connor Bazelak will once again need to be cool under pressure and hit his throws as we saw against Kentucky. Badie needs to just do what he has been doing all year meanwhile.
This is a big game for the Tigers. Win it, and there is a very real chance at being 5-1 when Texas A&M comes to Columbia. This is a matchup in Year 2 of the Drinkwitz era that he needs to come out victorious in to continue to show that he has the Tigers going on the right path. The Eagles have one real threat at wide receiver and the Tigers recruited Allie Green IV and Akayleb Evans from Tulsa to shut down receivers like Flowers along with Ennis Rakestraw.
Slow down the run game and the Eagles should be hard-pressed to move the ball. Bazelak has done a great job on avoiding turnovers and that will need to continue. The Tigers didn’t pass their last road test but Kentucky is a better team than Boston College. This is a test I think Mizzou will pass.
