As noted above, the Gamecocks are under new leadership for the rest of the season, cutting ties with Will Muschamp earlier this week and naming former Colorado State head coach Mike Bobo as the interim for the rest of the year.
Muschamp was supposed to lead South Carolina to the top portion of the SEC, but finished with a 28-30 record in his four and a half years at South Carolina, going 17-22 in conference play and 1-2 in bowl games.
Bobo having previous head coaching experience at Colorado State and also having former CSU quarterback Collin Hill should help make his transition fairly painless, but will it carry over to on-field play?
The Missouri Tigers haven’t played a game yet in November, last taking the field in a 41-17 Halloween loss to Florida. Mizzou had a scheduled bye week on November 7, then had a COVID postponement against Georgia last week. The Tigers come into this game with just 56 scholarship players as of Thursday, precariously close to the SEC’s rule of needing 53 scholarship players in order to play the game, a rule which states that you don’t necessarily need to follow it, making it not all that much of a rule.
Despite that, the Tigers will be looking to get things figured out on offense. They sputtered against Florida after looking very competent against LSU and, to an extent, Kentucky. Facing a Gamecocks team that is going through a change right now could be just what Mizzou needs to get things going again.
