The Aggies hope to apply some more pressure on the committee as they battle Auburn.

The Texas A&M Aggies’ barnstorming tour has entered December. Still with just one loss on the year, the Aggies are set to face the Auburn Tigers to start the first Saturday of the final month of the year. They and Auburn have some camaraderie, as both have eaten losses to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Auburn’s was of course was more recent as the Tigers were bulldozed by the Tide a week ago.

The strength of the Aggies this season has most certainly been the defense. They rate well both in basic and advanced metrics, as they’ve really come together to be a real knockout unit. Against an Auburn offense that is pretty enigmatic at best, they have a chance to deliver a real blow to them. If Tank Bigsby were healthier, I would say that the Tigers may stand a fighting chance of at least being able to play ball control. He’s still very much shaken though, so I’m not sure that happens.

Isaiah Spiller will be a key factor for A&M on offense. He’ll face a run defense that has given up over 5.0 yards per carry in three of their last four games. Auburn was able to tame LSU in that lone instance, but they’ve been otherwise unable to handle whatever any team throws at time. This is a matchup nightmare that I think the Aggies can and should be able to exploit.

If Auburn is to pull off the upset, I think it comes down to attacking Kellen Mond. While Mond had lots of hype coming into this season, he’s performed only moderately well this year. If Auburn can generate some pressure and maybe come away with some turnovers, then perhaps they have a chance to compete with the top-flight Aggies.
