The LSU Tigers scored a gutsy win over the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday. The Tigers edged the Razorbacks 27-24 to net a much-needed win, this after a lengthy three-week layoff from playing.
Obviously, things haven’t gone as planned for LSU after a perfect season in 2019. But this win certainly gives them a much-needed boost. Even if you are’t completely into the moral victory thing, this was a victory for LSU that landed in both the tangible and intangible columns.
LSU at one point held a 17-7 lead in the second quarter. This came after Racey McMath scored on a 30-yard touchdown pass from TJ Finley, and then Tyrion Davis-Price ran in from one yard out to prop them up by 10. To Arkansas’ credit, they feistily fought back. Feleipe Franks scored on a 10-yard rush to close the gap to three on the ensuing possession. And while Cade York hit a 24-yard field goal to end the half, Trelon Smith scored late in the third quarter to give Arkansas the lead.
The Hogs pushed their lead up to 24-20 after AJ Reed hit a 22-yard field goal. But then late, Jaray Jenkins caught a 13-yard touchdown pass from Finley to give LSU the lead. They would not soon relinquish it, as a missed field goal by Arkansas at the horn gave LSU the win and, of course, The Boot!
Assuming things hold — and Lord only knows if they actually will or not — LSU will play the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday, while the Arkansas Razorbacks will play the Missouri Tigers.
