Joey Gatewood is on the move.
The now former Auburn Tigers quarterback announced Thursday that he’s heading up north to Kentucky. Gatewood will be joining the Kentucky Wildcats, per his tweet on the matter.

Gatewood had been a member of the Tigers team for the last two seasons. He appeared in just one game a season ago before redshirting, and then would appear in seven games this past season. After not winning the starting job out of camp, losing that title to Bo Nix, Gatewood appeared primarily as a runner in Gus Malzahn’s offense. He threw just seven passes, though he did pick up two touchdowns through the air on those passes. He also rushed for 148 yards on 29 carries and found the end zone thrice
Prior to his arrival at Auburn, Joey Gatewood was a touted athlete out of Bartram Trail HS in Jacksonville. He was a four-star recruit and ranked first among all athletes in the country in the 2018 recruiting cycle. He also ranked 49th in the nation overall and ninth in the state of Florida in a class headed by Xavier Thomas, Patrick Surtain II, James Cook and Tyson Campbell, among others.
Best of luck to Gatewood with the Wildcats!
