The South Carolina Gamecocks have struck big in the recruiting game.
National Signing Day played out nicely for the Gamecocks, who landed five-star defensive end Jordan Burch on Wednesday. Burch, a native of Columbia and an attendee of The Hammond School, announced his signing with the Gamecocks at his school. He selected the Gamecocks over a variety of top-shelf programs, including the Alabama Crimson Tide, Clemson Tigers, Georgia Bulldogs and LSU Tigers.

Burch checks in at 6-foot-5, 275 lbs. as he barrels towards arriving on campus in Columbia. He is the top player in the state of South Carolina, and his commitment means that Will Muschamp has brought in four of the top five recruits in the state right now. Burch joins Myrtl Beach dual-threat quarterback Luke Doty, his teammate and defensive tackle Alex Huntley and defensive tackle Tonka Hemingway from Conway in that camp.
There’s currently just one strong-side defensive end ranked ahead of Jordan Burch right now, that being Clemson commit Myles Murphy out of Hillgrove HS in Powder Springs, Georiga. And there are only four players ranked ahead of him in the nation right now: Clemson DT commit and Bryan Bresee out of Damascus, Maryland, Ohio State Buckeyes WR commit and Julian Fleming, Murphy and Oregon Ducks commit Justin Flowe. So, he’s in elite company, to say the very least.
With his commitment to the Gamecocks, Jordan Burch becomes the highest-rated recruit to go to South Carolina since a guy by the name of Jadeveon Clowney. Maybe you’ve heard of him. Considering that Clowney was the best recruit SC ever signed, that means that Burch is now the second-best, ahead of the likes of Marcus Lattimore, Zacch Picken sand Stephon Gilmore among others.
