Is Dave Aranda on the move to Las Vegas?
Fox’s Bruce Feldman reported earlier Tuesday that Aranda, the defensive coordinator for the LSU Tigers, has “emerged as the focus of the UNLV Rebels head coaching search.”
SOURCES: #LSU DC Dave Aranda has emerged as the focus of the #UNLV head coaching search and a deal could be sorted out as early as within the next 24 hours.

Aranda has spent the last four seasons as the Tigers’ defensive coordinator. In that time he has helped shape the Tigers as one of the most fearsome units in the country on that side of the ball. Year in and year out, the Tigers have produced a bevy of talented players under Aranda’s watch, even dating back to his prior jobs, as well. He spent three seasons as the defensive coordinator with the Wisconsin Badgers from 2013-2015, a time where Wisky had some of the best defenses in the nation, as well.
All of this is to say that Aranda, who is still just 43 years old, has spent much of the 21st century as one of the best coordinators in the country. He was a Broyles Award nominee in both 2015 and 2016 and his progression seemed to lead to this point, if he indeed does become UNLV’s next football coach.
More on this as it develops, of course.
UPDATE: Dave Aranda is reportedly going nowhere.
Adam Rittenberg of ESPN reported that Aranda “is not expected to be the next UNLV coach.”
Sources now telling me #LSU defensive coordinator Dave Aranda is not expected to be the next #UNLV coach. There were some initial talks from both sides but no offer was made. #Oregon offensive coordinator Marcus Arroyo remains a strong candidate for the UNLV job.
