Four teams from the SEC are in this week’s AP Top 25 poll.
The Alabama Crimson Tide, Tennessee Volunteers, Missouri Tigers and Florida Gators were able to make into the poll. Three of the four teams — Alabama, Mizzou and Tennessee — remained fixtures from week to week, while Florida is a new entrant into the poll after a very successful week.
We’ll start with the Gators, who’ve quietly won four in a row and now sit 22nd. They toppled the Vanderbilt Commodores and then the West Virginia Mountaineers this past week. Beating WVU is no small feat, as the Mountaineers, 11-5 on the year, are ranked 17th in this week’s poll. And the Gators were able to pick up the win in Morgantown, a big time win for this team to say the least.
Meanwhile, Mizzou finds themselves 18th in the poll after a 1-1 week. The Tigers rebounded from a tough 88-82 loss to the Auburn Tigers earlier in the week. Mizzou took down the TCU Horned Frogs in overtime, winning 102-98 in an action-packed, high-scoring affair. At 11-3 on the year, Mizzou remains as one of the better teams in the country and still remain a pretty high threat in the conference.
Next, we have Tennessee. The Vols snapped their abbreviated two-game losing streak and have since gone on a two-game winning streak. And now, they sit at 11th in the country after being 18th last week. UT edged the Mississippi State Bulldogs earlier in the week, but that was just the appetizer. The Vols roughhoused the Kansas Jayhawks in Knoxville, winning 80-61 on Saturday evening. That win certainly grabbed attention and reminded people of just how good this Tennessee team can be.
Finally, we have Alabama. After earning a Top 10 ranking last week, ‘Bama is still in that group, just down from 9th to 10th. Alabama started the week with a win over the Kentucky Wildcats, but fell to the Oklahoma Sooners in Norman. Sure enough, OU now finds themselves in Alabama’s spot, as they sit above the Tide at 9th. ‘Bama is still the class of the SEC at this point, but the tick down was probably apt for this situation.
No other SEC teams received votes in this week’s AP Top 25.
