Mississippi State vs. Vanderbilt 2021: Preview, time, odds, TV schedule, watch online

The Mississippi State Bulldogs and Vanderbilt Commodores haven’t had the greatest 2021 season. Lowly Vandy hasn’t won an SEC game all season, while State has just won one. They’re each in the bottom tier of their divisions, and not much upward trajectory is expected. State’s three wins away from bowl eligibility while Vandy is four. There will have to be serious movement if either team wants to make a run at playing in the winter.

Even with State’s struggles, they’re a huge favorite over Vanderbilt. This even comes after the Commodores nearly picked the South Carolina Gamecocks off last week. That should tell you all that you need to know if you walk in here unfamiliar with this one.

State’s offense will probably fare better than they did last week against Alabama. The Bulldogs posted season-lows in total yards, yards per play, completion%, and rushing yards. Vandy’s defense is significantly worse than the Tide’s so expect the Bulldogs to get right here. They could potentially have a good day on the ground. Vandy’s given up more than 5.0 YPC on five different occasions this season.

Vanderbilt’s only real chance of winning is to hope State’s defense plays porously. Granted, the Bulldog defense hasn’t played exceedingly well. They’re giving up an average of 5.8 YPP this season. Most of those yards have been given up through the air. Though, last week, they gave up over 500 total yards and 195 rushing yards to the Tide. Vandy’s not ‘Bama, but if that’s the kind of effort then they could perform well.

I’d still feel confident about a Mississippi State win here though.
