Neither the Mississippi State Bulldogs nor the Texas A&M Aggies probably wanted to be in the spots that they find themselves in as we near the end of October. Such is life however, and now the 3-4 Bulldogs and 4-3 Aggies must do battle in a game that will likely send the loser further down the proverbial chute.
Texas A&M comes into this game on the heels of defeating the other Mississippi school. The Aggies beat the Ole Miss Rebels 24-17 last week and have won two of their last three games, the other win coming over the Arkansas Razorbacks while the lone loss was to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Granted, those victories over some of the lowliest SEC teams were by a combined 11 points, so it’s not as though they were very impressive Ws.
Comparatively speaking, though, Mississippi State would probably kill for a close win. They’ve lost three in a row, and all of them by double digits. They fell 56-23 to the Auburn Tigers, 2010 to the Tennessee Volunteers and 36-13 a week ago to the LSU Tigers. Those losses coupled with their 31-24 loss to the Kansas State Wildcats back in September give them four losses in their last five.
State’s free fall mixed with A&M’s apparent inability to win big make for a fascinating matchup in more ways than one. It shall certainly be an interesting way to start things off for the SEC on Saturday, as this game is the first of the day for the conference.
