Series History
This is the first meeting between Ole Miss and South Alabama.
Preview
It was quite the offseason for Ole Miss.
That can be said pretty much every year, but it’s especially true this year. What a summer.
Anyway, Matt Luke is here now looking to become the fifth straight Ole Miss head coach to win his debut game.
While a lot has been made about the losses Ole Miss had over the summer, they still return some pretty good pieces in Shea Patterson, who saw his redshirt burned in the last few games of the season last year, and his success is pretty much tied to the success of the team. While it would be nice if the young QB had a guy like Evan Engram to throw to, he has to play the hand he’s dealt.
With that being said, this game against South Alabama and next week’s against UT Martin should be a couple nice easy ones for Patterson and the Rebels before they head to Cal, and then face both Alabama teams.
There’s not much to say about South Alabama. They’re just kind of there. They beat Mississippi State in Starkville to start the season last year. Ole Miss should avoid that.
