Leading Off...
Only two of the three games scheduled for Wednesday were able to go down as Arkansas-Missouri State was postponed due to rain.
South Carolina got the day started with a 9-4 thumping of Gardner-Webb. The game started off wackily, as G-W put up a run in the first, only for the Gamecocks to answer with three runs of their own. South Carolina’s adversary decided to answer with a three-run frame in the ensuing inning, and then an inning later, South Carolina retook the lead and never looked back, putting up innings of two, one and three runs in innings 3, 4 and 5.
Alyssa Vanderveer was the top performer, going 3-for-4 with 4 RBI, three coming off a three-run homer in the first inning. Kaylea Snaer went 4-for-5 at the plate, getting her ninth double in the process and scored two runs too. Krystan White meanwhile upped her average up to .388 with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with two runs and an RBI.
LSU, meanwhile, faced a stiffer test from Nicholls. The Tigers put up an early 2-spot thanks to a single by Taylor Satchell and a sac fly by Aliyah Andrews. Nicholls would respond with runs in the fourth and fifth inning, and then the Bayou Bengals would walk it off in the seventh thanks to Sydney Springfield, whose single brought Andrews home to win the game.
