From a rankings perspective, none of the matchups below may catch the eye, but there are a few games taking place Tuesday that are worthy of attention.
For starters, Auburn and Georgia Tech should provide some entertaining baseball. The Tigers and Yellow Jackets are 17-5 and 12-6 to this point of the season, and Auburn of course is coming off of a surprising sweep of the Florida Gators this past weekend. This is set to be the first road game of the season for the Tigers, and thus far the Yellow Jackets are 12-4 at home, so we’ll see if Aubie can get through the buzz in Atlanta and pick up a road win.
Next, Missouri will of course garner plenty of attention since, you know, they’ve won 19 games in a row. They face Little Rock in Columbia later on in the night, and with Little Rock being 8-12 to this point in the season, the Tigers find themselves in position to thrust their win streak up to 20. No word yet if they’ll need Scott Hatteberg-like dramatics to get there, but time will tell.
Plus, Ole Miss and Memphis will take their rivalry to the baseball diamond. The Rebels are 14-6 to this point in the year and just took two of three from Vandy. In addition, the Rebs are winners of six of seven and seven of their last nine dating back to March 7. The Tigers meanwhile have won their last two in a row, four of five, six of 10 and 11 of their last 16. The game is set to take place at AutoZone Park in Memphis, so those Rebels will be challenged on the road to say the least.
Mississippi State and Alabama on the other hand will be tested against teams with better records than them. Southern Miss and UAB are each 16-4 and 13-7 respectively, so expect the Bulldogs and Crimson Tide to be fighting uphill battles on the diamond on Tuesday. Everyone else is facing teams that are under .500 and should result in victories for those respective SEC teams. Georgia is the only under .500 team (8-13) to be facing another team who’s under .500 in the form of Kennesaw State, whom are 8-11.
