Florida picks up four-star DT Fred Hansard from New Jersey

Fred Hansard brings the total commits for 2017 up to 16 for the Gators.

Florida got a huge commitment on Friday night when Hun School (NJ) defensive tackle Fred Hansard announced his commitment to the Gators via Twitter. Hansard is the third commitment at DT for UF with Jordon Scott and Javier Edwards already in the fold. Hansard chose Florida over 30 other offers, including ones from Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Texas A&M.

Standing at 6’3” and 324 lbs., Hansard brings a lot of size to the table, which is something you’re looking for at defensive tackle when you have four down linemen on defense. Judging from his Hudl film from his junior season (which you can see below), he has a very explosive first step, is absurdly athletic for his size, and uses his length to his advantage in getting off of blocks. There really isn’t a flaw in his game and it’ll be hard to keep him off the field when he arrives in Gainesville.

Hansard is the eighth four-star prospect of the 2017 class for Florida and the 16th commitment overall in a class that is really heavy in the defensive front seven (six commitments). Two positions to look for new commits are wide receiver and offensive line, where there’s only one commit each for those positions for the Gators.
