The Texas A&M Aggies are up now as the last SEC team to get the NCAA Tournament in progress. Vanderbilt didn't do so well in its loss to Wichita State, but Kentucky had a pretty good time against Stony Brook.
A&M is a 3-seed, and those don't often lose in the first round. Last year was an aberration with two 14-seeds winning; that's happened just two other times in the 64-team tournament era that began in 1985.
At least one 14-seed winning a game does happen a little more than half the time historically, but A&M isn't likely to be a 3-seed that gets upset right off the bat this year. That honor goes to West Virginia, which is playing by far the best 14-seed in Stephen F. Austin. Using the KenPom ratings to give SEC comparables, SFA is roughly as good as Florida. TAMU's opening opponent of Green Bay is right around where Tennessee is.
