Odds: Alabama opened as 20-point favorites. The line dropped to 18.
As the regular season comes to a close, I say, they save the best for last.
“Rivalry Week” is underway and it’s hard not to be more excited about the Iron Bowl as the Auburn Tigers go head to head with the undefeated Alabama Crimson Tide.
Although Alabama is the favorite to win by a large margin, Auburn has shown they're not to be taken lightly by ripping apart past opponents, winning four of their last five games. Even though Alabama is set to face Florida in the SEC Championship in Atlanta, they still see Auburn as a hurdle to continue their undefeated season and they will not let up.
Auburn’s offense has had quite a few hiccups and this may be a huge downfall against Crimson Tide defense who are currently No. 1 in the country in Rush Defense S&P+. Auburn’s QB Sean White seems to be questionable for this week’s game and he did not play last week with a sore shoulder. In last week’s win, backup QB Jeremy Johnson did quite a good job with running as throwing the ball, but who starts this week is still in the air. Auburn running backs’ injury issues with Kamyrn Pettway (leg) and Kerryon Johnson (ankle) are already stated, but if they play, they might be able to make an impact.
But, Alabama’s defense still cannot be stopped.
Alabama is ranked No. 2 in the nation in scoring defense with nine touchdowns on five fumbles and four interceptions that have been ran back.
We cannot count out Auburn’s defense, either. They are just as dangerous. With 82 QB hurries and 25 sacks, Jalen Hurts may have his work cut out for him and his interceptions have accumulated over the last six games. He's had at least one interception in each game and Auburn is looking to add on to that stat.
This is, no doubt, one of the best rivalry games in the sport. Alabama has won six of the last eight meetings, 44-35-1 overall and is looking to get another win but not without a fight from Auburn.
This is all about who is the best in Alabama in college football.
Prediction: Alabama 35, Auburn 21
