Patrick Surtain II is heading to Mile High City.
The Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back was just selected ninth overall by the Denver Broncos on Thursday night. Surtain joins fellow ‘Bama draftee Jaylen Waddle as Top 10 picks in this year’s NFL Draft. He’s the 21st player from ‘Bama to have been picked in Round 1 since 2014, a list that expects to grow as the night progresses.
Surtain is the son of former All-Pro defensive back, Patrick Surtain. He enjoyed a celebrated career at Alabama, capping it off with a College Football Playoff Championship victory. He’ll join a Denver team that is a work-in-progress at the moment. There are lots of holes to fill, but he joins a defense that already has stud Justin Simmons aboard right now. Time will tell to see if Surtain II can join that fold and play up to par. He has a lot of talent, a lot of great lineage, and he’ll have a great opportunity out in Denver to succeed.
