The Mississippi St. Bulldogs and Vanderbilt Commodores continue to careen towards futility. 2020 has not been bringing good tidings to either squad, and so on Saturday, the Bulldogs and Commodores each will look to stop their descending momentum as they’re set to square off against each other.
State has hit a hard downswing over the last few weeks. It’s hard to believe that they grabbed so many headlines with their throttling of the LSU Tigers just a couple of weeks ago. But since then, that win hasn’t looked as redeemable, and neither have the Bulldogs. They have lost four consecutive games, and were just recently drubbed 41-0 by the Alabama Crimson Tide. After putting up 44 points against LSU, the Bulldogs have failed to score more than 14 points in these aforementioned four losses. Needless to say, the wheels have completely spun off and Mike Leach’s bunch is looking to just assemble something representative of a competent vehicle.
Vanderbilt has obviously not fared much better. The Commodores remain winless to this point. They have the worst offense in the SEC by a pretty sizable margin, although State’s PPG output has decelerated big time since Week 1. So the two are pretty close in that regard. Vandy’s defense is also one of the worst in the conference from a PPG perspective, though the Ole Miss Rebels currently have the worst output from that standpoint. This was sadly their expectation coming into the year, and we’ll assuredly know if their spot in the basement of the conference is sealed up after playing the Bulldogs on Saturday.
