2019 College Football Playoff Top 25 Rankings: First edition revealed, LSU and Alabama #2 and #3

The first edition of the 2019 CFB Playoff Rankings have arrived.

Fresh out of the oven, the rankings that will help make sense of what’s to come this coming winter are here. Leading the way surprisingly are the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes may not have the ‘resume’ that LSU has, but the Bucks are the top team in the land to start things off this year.

Down behind them are the LSU Tigers and Alabama Crimson Tide. The two preeminent SEC West programs are ranked #2 and #3 in the first set of rankings this season. That will likely change after this week, as they’re due to collide this coming weekend in Tuscaloosa.

Following the SEC’s best is another team from the Big Ten: The Penn State Nittany Lions, who are ranked #4 in the inaugural rankings. The Clemson Tigers, the defending champions, would be out if the Playoff started today, as they rank #5.

The #6 team in the land is the next team from the SEC: The Georgia Bulldogs. The Dawgs took down the Florida Gators — who now sit 10th — and were rewarded for such, as they find themselves in a good spot. The #7 team, meanwhile, is the Oregon Ducks, who are just on the outside looking in. Utah follows the Ducks, giving the Pac-12 two teams in the Top 10.

Following Oklahoma are the next round of SEC teams. Florida and Auburn rank 10th and 11th in this first set of rankings. Florida is likely capped out here as they probably don’t have enough the rest of the way to get up unless something dramatic happens with the teams above them. Auburn still has a shot, as they have Georgia and Alabama still remaining on their schedule. After that though,t ehre are no other SEC teams to speak of.
