The Auburn Tigers pulled off a stunner on the first Saturday night of the season.
The Tigers edged the Oregon Ducks 27-21 thanks in part to a final-minute touchdown thrown by freshman Bo Nix . Nix found Seth Williams down field and tossed one down to him. Williams would make a play on the ball and fall into the end zone to give Auburn a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.
Oregon’s Justin Herbert would attempt to give the Ducks an epic win in the final seconds. But a Hail Mary attempt sailed way past the end zone and the Ducks’ chance of pulling off a stunner of their own was wiped away.
Nix was rather skittish throughout the night but he still managed to get it done in the final minute anyway. While there is work to be done in some departments, thieving a win like this does lots for Auburn’s morale going forward. For Oregon, well, they will have to let this one sting and marinate for a while. They left plenty of points on the board and could’ve pulled away big time from this one. But alas, that’s not the way the cookie crumbled for them.
The next time we see Auburn, they’ll be playing the Kent State Golden Flashes on September 14.
