Auburn Tigers WR/QB John Franklin is transferring from Auburn, Gus Malzahn announced Tuesday.

Franklin, featured in Netflix’s ‘Last Chance U’ had 430 rushing yards last season, which was third-highest on Auburn. He also was 14-26 for 204 passing yards, as he appeared in seven games as quarterback.

Franklin, from Fort Lauderdale, reportedly wants to end his football career closer to home. He confirmed the news on his Instagram account.

Reports indicate Franklin will be heading to Florida Atlantic. Lane Kiffin seemed to allude to the news on his Twitter account Tuesday afternoon.

Additionally, Kiffin has shown that FAU would welcome players from ‘Last Chance U’ in the past.

Franklin’s decision to transfer is a bit of a surprise. Just two weeks ago, he told AL.com that it “wasn’t really an option”

"Transferring wasn't really an option. I had to figure out what I was going to do for this last year and me, coach (Gus) Malzahn and (offensive coordinator Chip) Lindsey sat down and came up with a plan. It's working out for the best right now."

It’s worth pointing out, however, that when Auburn announced Jarrett Stidham would be the starting quarterback, Sean White was named the backup.

Franklin began his career at Florida State before stops at East Mississippi Community College and Auburn.
