Jamyest Williams, the fifth-ranked player in the state of Georgia for the Class of 2017, pledged his commitment to South Carolina on Saturday afternoon. Williams, a native of Loganville, Georgia, made the announcement that he would be a Gamecock prior to a tilt between Grayson, Williams’ current school, and IMG Academy.

The addition of Williams makes an instant impact on the 2017 class. He immediately becomes the top player in their class, above recent commits Hamsah Nasirildeen and MJ Webb, and props them up to eighth in the SEC and 15th in the nation. He is the 21st hard commit of Will Muschamp’s 2017 class and the fourth from Georgia as he joins the aforementioned Webb of Madison, and three-star recruits Shawn Smith of Brunswick and Zay Brown of Athens.

247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong had a glowing remark about Williams in an article written on Saturday about his commitment to the Gamecocks:

Williams will be a day one contributor for the Gamecocks. He can flourish as a nickel covering those quick, shifty slots but he certainly has the talent to play out wide. Williams combines athleticism with consistent technique for his productivity.

Williams is an top-tier talent nationally, at his position and in his home state of Georgia as well. He ranks 55th in the nation, eighth at his position, and fifth in the Peach State behind Davis Mills, Richard LeCounte III, Deangelo Gibbs and Jake Fromm, two of whom are Georgia commits (Gibbs, Fromm). He finds himself in the company of Ohio State commit Shaun Wade and Florida State commit Stanford Samuels, among others, at his position in the top 10 in the 2017 rankings.
