It's going to be a great first week of SEC Football...
When I think about Week 1 in College Football, I think about easy tune-up games filled with cupcakes and little stress at an almost sure win. It really is wonderful to feel that does it not? Well for most this week in the SEC, the stress level should be already high as we have a BEAST, and I mean BEAST of a Week 1 in store for all of us. You have powerhouse vs powerhouse and big boy after big boy. I am so ready to see how Week 1 unfolds.
The only problem with a great slate of games is that it is going to be hard to pick. Fortunately, I consider myself the master of picking College Football games...so have no fear. These will all be 100% CORRECT (I hope). So grab some ice cold beer and lets dive into this juicy slate of games shall we? All times are CENTRAL
The Few...the Proud...The Cupcake Games
Appetizer State vs #9 Tennessee (Thursday 6:30 PM...SEC Network)
Whatever this is. Appalachian State is a good football team on Sun Belt terms, but against the Vols it shouldn't be a competitive game. I look for the first quarter to maybe be like a 10-3 Vols lead but after that...App State will collapse for the Vols first win of the year...Tennessee 52-13
South Roll Tide vs Mississippi State (11:00 AM...SEC Network)
South Alabama has an amazing mascot. The jaguar is actually a unique name compared to Tigers, Bulldogs and some Texas Cowboy. But that is about the only thing that South Bama has an advantage in. Bulldogs run away with this game...MSU 42-7
Louisiana Tech vs Arkansas (3:00 PM...SEC Network)
But Josh...Arkansas always blows it at the beginning of the year. ._. Yes, Arkansas has struggled the past couple of years at the beginning of the year, but Louisiana Tech doesn't have the same potential to upset the Hogs as Toledo does. Arkansas may have a close game through a quarter or two, but they will eventually wear down LA Tech if that happens...Arkansas 45-17
South Ole Miss/South Miss State vs Kentucky (6:30 PM...ESPNU)
This game is by far the most interesting of the cupcake games to me. I really want to see how Kentucky looks this year...and if they have the potential to make a bowl. Southern Miss, unlike the other cupcake teams, is a good football team. I will watch this game for a bit before getting into the BIG time SEC Match-ups at night...Kentucky 28-17
UCan't vs #25 Florida (6:30 PM...SEC Network
Chop...Chop...Splat...and that was all that was left of the Minutemen...Florida 52-3
THURSDAY NIGHT IN THE SE of C!!!
South Carolina vs Vanderbilt (Thursday 7:00 PM...ESPN)
This should be a fun matchup between two evenly matched teams IMO. Though I think Vandy has a slight edge with that defense, I do have to say that South Carolina may surprise some people...I wouldn't be surprised if the Gamecocks come out feeling disrespected. I still think Vandy wins in a nice game to see how both look for the year...Vanderbilt 20-17
"The Slate" The Best Week 1 in Recent Memory
Missouri vs Big 12 Eastern School (11AM...FOX SPORTS 1...wtf?)
What better way to start off the day by watching an SEC School play a Big 12 School? Such is the case with Missouri and West Virginia. It would make my heart jump to see Missouri show off that SEC Defense, but I don't know if they can do that without an offense to support them for the full game. I hope Missouri proves me wrong and wins this one for the SEC...West Virginia 24-17
#5 LSU vs Cheese Heads (2:30 PM...ABC/ESPN3)
Oh Yeah. Big 10 vs SEC...and it should be a great one. I am ready to see Leonard Fournette run for 200 yards again. I am ready to see how LSU has improved at QB Play. And dammit I am ready to see LSU kick the hell out of a Big 10 School...LSU 35-17
#16 University of California Los Angeles vs Texas A&M (2:30 PM...CBS)
Texas A&M should take this game as a must win. Is that a little early to say? Sure, UCLA is a good football team, but Texas A&M should be better than we have seen. This is going to REALLY set the tone for the Aggies this year, and starting off with a loss won't be good for Kevin Summlin's already spicy seat. However, I do think the Aggies will be able to pull it off with a combo of a really fun offense and nasty d-line...Texas A&M 31-28
#18 Georgia vs #22 Slightly More North Carolina (4:30 PM...ESPN)
Yo...this is a great matchup. Georgia has Nick Chubb back baby! Lets go! I am ready to see how Georgia looks with Kirby calling the shots, and this game is a EXCELLENT way to see how much work he has done for the Dawgs. That being said that, if Georgia gets somehow blown out (which I am 95.7% certain won't happen)...the seat is already burning...Georgia 35-21
#1 Alabama vs #20 University of Southern California (7:00 PM...ABC/ESPN3)
Alabama is the King of College Football again, and is sitting real nice at that #1 spot. That being said, they should walk into this one with the swagger of McJagger (that was a joke). I am very interested to see who this Bo kid that all my Bama friends keep talking about. Guess we get to see in a win for the kings...Alabama 31-13
#2 Clem's Son vs Auburn (8:00 PM...ESPN)
Primetime! Spotlight! All the lights will be shining on the newly repaired Gus Bus. Now let me first get this out of the way...I don't think Auburn will win. However, and hear me out, I think Auburn will win. WHAT? Yeah seriously...I don't know what the hell to think about this game. I think this is going to be a great game, and I think it is one that Auburn wins. Is it because I believe in Gus this year? I am not sure. But something tells me...something deep in my soul...to pick the unranked Tigers...not the 2nd ranked Tigers...Auburn 31-30
GAME OF THE WEEK!
#4 State of Florida vs #11 OLE MISS BLACK BEARS/REBELS/CHEATIN BEARS/BEARS/GRIZZLY BEARS/POLAR BEARS (MONDAY 7:00 PM...ESPN)
Got that out of the way. Lol. Florida State is so overrated. Screw that #4 ranking. It is a cardinal sin for any ACC team to be ranked #4 (which is probably why I picked Auburn to beat #2 Clemson). Ole Miss adds to the miserable week for the ACC by beating their other overrated team...Florida State. Chad Kelly throws for 250+ yards and the Land Shark defense goes crazy. Whatever you want to call the Ole Miss Rebels, they win this one. I think it will be competitive...but I still like the Rebs in this one...Ole Miss 42-28
So what will we learn from this week? We will learn that the ACC is the most overrated conference in America and that it is illegal to ever think that there are 2 TEAMS in that conference should ever be allowed in the Top 4 at one time. The SEC is king baby.
What do you guys think of these predictions? Am I drunk? Am I a Pick God? Leave your thoughts below and answer in the poll! Have a wonderful last week of no foot...OH WAIT! DON'T FORGET THAT AUGUST 26th WE HAVE HAWAII and CALIFORNIA! DAMN!
Thanks guys! Have a good one!
