What a story behind this game today. After coaching at Mississippi State for nine years, a bigger program finally poached Dan Mullen away. The Florida Gators, his former employer where he worked as the offensive coordinator under Urban Meyer, hired him away after Jim McElwain was fired in the middle of last season.

So far, Mullen has gotten off to a 3-1 start, notching wins over Charleston Southern, Colorado State, and Tennessee. Mullen did allow the first loss to Kentucky in over three decades, however.

For Joe Moorhead, Mullen’s replacement at Mississippi State, he has also gotten the Bulldogs off to a 3-1 start. They have won against Stephen F. Austin, Kansas State, and UL Lafayette. Much like his counterpart, Mullen, Mississippi State was defeated by Kentucky.

The Bulldogs have the more experienced and talented offense, and they should be able to move the ball today. They don’t succeed just on offense, though, as the Bulldogs are Top 10 in the country in total defense.

As for the Gators, well they are just outside the Top 25 in the country in scoring offense. It’s a solid offense that will be tested by the Bulldog defense. In the end, the more experienced team playing at home prevails.

Prediction: Mississippi State 31, Florida 21
