The 2018 College Football Playoff has been revealed.
For the fifth consecutive season, the Alabama Crimson Tide have gotten into the field. The Tide are the #1 seed for the third time, having done so in 2014 and 2016 as well. ‘Bama will be playing Heisman Trophy hopeful Kyler Murray and the Oklahoma Sooners on December 29 in the Orange Bowl. Time is yet TBA. Alabama and OU are no strangers to one another as they partook in the 2014 Sugar Bowl, a game the Sooners won.
Elsewhere, the #2 seeded Clemson Tigers will be playing in the Cotton Bowl against the #3 seeded Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Clemson and Alabama have been constants at the top, alternating 1-2 in each of the five seasons that the CFB Playoff has existed. This is Notre Dame’s first appearance in the Playoff and the first opportunity they’ll have at vying for a National Championship since 2012.
All in all, there’s no surprises here. There was campaigning for the Georgia Bulldogs, but two losses and Saturday’s gaffe in the SEC Championship Game effectively took them out. The Ohio State Buckeyes had a ‘shot,’ so to speak, but Oklahoma winning took them out of the equation to jump them. And, well, maybe they shouldn’t have lost to the Purdue Boilermakers earlier this season.
