The LSU Tigers garnered a blue-chip commit on Friday.
Jacoby Mathews, a five-star safety in the Class of 2022, announced his commitment to the program on Friday. Mathews, a native of Ponchatoula, made the announcement on his Twitter account:

Mathews is an elite player in his class. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety ranks second amongst all safeties in 2022, only trailing uncommitted recruit Kamari Wilson of IMG Academy. In addition, he’s ranked third in his home state of Louisiana. And yes, LSU does boast the other two, in the form of five-star pro-style quarterback Walker Howard (St. Thomas More HS, Lafayette) and five-star offensive tackle Will Campbell (Neville HS, Monroe). Mathews also ranks 30th in the nation overall.
LSU’s class is bolstered with the addition of Mathews. He’s the third five-star of the group and the ninth player of at least four-star caliber. They rank second in the SEC behind the top-ranked Georgia Bulldogs. They also third in the nation behind second-ranked Ohio State.
