You might think that the Georgia Bulldogs have a lot of blue-chip running backs. The truth is, you’d be right! Between Zamir White, James Cook, D’Andre Swift and Elijah Holyfield, they have four backs on the roster who are listed at four-stars or higher.
Heading into 2019, that list will swell to five. This after Kirby Smart and the Dawgs received news that John Emery Jr. committed to UGA on Sunday. Emery announced his commitment on his personal Twitter account.

Prior to committing to Georgia, Emery held offers from several of the top programs in the country. FSU, LSU, Miami, USC, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, and Alabama are just some of the programs who made a play for him. But in the end, the pedigree and affinity that UGA has for running backs obviously held pretty strongly.
The consensus on Emery is that he’s one of the most talented players int he country, full stop. He ranks 31st in the nation in the Class of 2019 and is listed as a five-star recruit. Among all running backs, the only player listed above him is uncommitted tailback Trey Sanders of IMG Academy. Louisiana has an assortment of talent for 2019, but he still finds himself in the Top 5. Ranked 4th, Emery sits behind LSU commits Derek Stingley (1st) and Kardell Thomas (3rd) along with Ishmael Sopsher (2nd).
Emery is the 14th player to commit to Georgia for their 2019 class. It’s taking shape pretty quickly and pretty well, as they currently rank 3rd in the nation and the Southeastern Conference behind the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas A&M Aggies. As of now, however, he is the only player from Louisiana in the class. Though that obviously can change in time.
