The South Carolina Gamecocks pulled in a highly touted recruit from north of the border.

A.J. Lawson, a native of Brampton, Ontario, Canada, just committed to the Gamecocks. He chose SC over the likes of the Creighton Bluejays and Tulane Green Wave, among others. Lawson announced this decision on his personal Twitter account.

247Sports’ standalone recruiting rankings has him listed 39th overall in the Class of 2019 (although he is eligible to play right away per Evan Daniels). He also ranks as the top player in the province of Ontario, over the likes of Orangeville Prep’s Joe Jones, among many others. The combo guard also ranks 5th among all 2019 combo guards right now, in the company of Cole Anthony, Kentucky Wildcats commit Tyrese Maxey, Jalen Lecque and Jahmius Ramsey.

South Carolina’s 2018 class is now up to five players with the addition of Lawson. He joins fellow guards T.J. Moss and Jermaine Cousinard, as well as wing Keyshawn Bryant and forward Alanzo Frink.
