Beware, SEC. Gamecock baseball is back. After dismantling LSU, South Carolina went into Vanderbilt this last weekend and promptly took two of three from the ‘Dores. At 26-18, 11-10 in conference play, Carolina’s RPI currently sits at 45 with series against Ole Miss, Mizzou, and Texas A&M left. Plenty of time to move the needle with how this team is playing.
Oh, Tennessee. The Vols just can never string together more than one quality series win at a time. Taking two from A&M last weekend, this weekend the Volunteers dropped the first two against Georgia. They were able to salvage the weekend and take the finale, but the remaining schedule is a gauntlet. Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Missouri. At 8-13 in conference play, just making the SEC tournament will be a challenge right now. However, Missouri is 9-12... and that series could be huge.
Florida still has yet to lose a series. They took the rubber match against Auburn on Sunday, holding onto the #1 ranking in the polls. The Gators go to Texas A&M this weekend... Beware of that one. The Ags and Rob Childress are a different beast at home.
LSU took a killer, absolutely killer loss this weekend. While losing to Ole Miss on the road isn’t too bad, it dropped the Tigers RPI all the way down to 53. What’s worse? LSU plays Arkansas this weekend. It’s becoming a very real possibility that LSU may miss the field of 64 this season.
This week’s players of the week are Kole Cottam from Kentucky and Barrett Loseke from Arkansas. Zach DeLoach from Texas A&M took home freshman of the week honors.
