We went 3-4 in our picks last week. It's time for a rebound, so let's jump right in.
#17 Texas A&M at Georgia
Many will argue the Dawgs made a statement last week against South Carolina. They swept the Gamecocks in Athens to announce themselves as a threat in the SEC. It doesn't get any easier this week with the Aggies coming to town. Texas A&M should be coming in angry after dropping a series at home against the Ole Miss Rebels in College Station. The Ags are a proven winner, but the Dawgs will ride the momentum here.
Prediction: Georgia
Tennessee at South Carolina
These are two teams that trending in the opposite directions, it seems. The Vols swept Alabama last weekend while the Gamecocks got swept themselves. Tony Vitello has given Tennessee a much needed spark, and the play has shown on the field. Carolina is taking their lumps right now in a transition under Mark Kingston. The talent is still there to win some games, and they will. It's hard to win on the road in any sport, and that holds true this weekend.
Prediction: South Carolina
#5 Arkansas at #4 Ole Miss
It seems like every week, these two teams are in a marquee series. Last week, Arkansas went to Florida, and Ole Miss went to TAMU. The Rebs won, and the Hogs... did not. Arkansas got boatraced on Saturday and Sunday after taking the opener, while the Rebels took the rubber match in College Station. Both of these teams can pitch and they can hit. Arkansas will come in angry, and maybe a little desperate, giving them the slight advantage.
Prediction: Arkansas
Mississippi State at #21 LSU
Oh boy, where to begin...Mississippi State appears to be just playing out the season at this point, as evidenced by the loss at Nicholls State on Wednesday. Now, they go to arguably the most hostile environment in the SEC for two night games. LSU is coming off a series loss at Vanderbilt, and they will heal their wounds this weekend against a Mississippi State team that’s lacking leadership.
Prediction: LSU
#8 Vanderbilt at #2 Florida
Vandy thought they had a challenge last week? Well, Florida says hello. The most complete team in the nation welcomes a hot team that got a nice series win over LSU. The Gators scored 17 runs on Saturday against Arkansas, and that's not easy to do, especially for a team not known for their offense. Tim Corbin will have his guys ready, and this should be a good series until the end.
Prediction: Florida
Missouri at #13 Auburn
Auburn had a chance to make a statement last week and they lost to Kentucky. Make no mistake, this is still a very good baseball team. But that series would have put the nation on notice. Missouri got a nice series win against Mississippi State, meanwhile. Regardless of their record, beating the Bulldogs is always a good series win. Problem is, Mizzou doesn't have the elite talent at some positions like Auburn does.
Prediction: Auburn
#6 Kentucky at Alabama
Oh dear, poor Tide. In what was a very winnable series last week, they got swept by Tennessee, and added in a midweek loss to Auburn. ‘Bama has lost seven games in a row, and this isn't the team to end the losing streak. Kentucky beat Auburn, giving themselves even more confidence, like they needed it. They will hit, and hit a lot. Status quo.
Prediction: Kentucky
