Ole Miss defeats Liberty in Oxford

The Rebels spoiled Hugh Freeze’s homecoming

The Ole Miss Rebels improved to 7-2 on the year following Saturday’s 27-14 win over Hugh Freeze and the Liberty Flames.

The Ole Miss Twitter account celebrated the win with an all-time great tweet.

Ole Miss got the game off to a fast start, as Jerrion Ealy took a handoff 70 yards for a touchdown on the Rebels’ second play from scrimmage to put them up 7-0. Ealy would run in for another score early in the second quarter to put the Rebels up 17-0, as the first half was incredibly prosperous for Ole Miss. They had a season high seven sacks over the first 30 minutes of the game, and after tacking on a Dannis Jackson receiving touchdown to go up 24-0, it looked like Ole Miss would roll to an easy victory.

The second half saw Liberty look a bit more competent, though. Their first drive was capped off by a 28 yard rushing touchdown from Shedro Lewis to cut the lead to 24-7. Ole Miss would kick a field goal to put them up 27-7 before Malik Lewis ran in for a three yard touchdown to cut into the lead yet again, making it 27-14.

That, however, was all the scoring. The teams combined for a scoreless fourth quarter, sending Ole Miss away with the 27-14 victory.

Ole Miss did a great job containing Willis all day for the most part. The NFL Draft prospect went 16-25 with 173 passing yards and three interceptions, in addition to sacking Willis nine times.

Ole Miss will return to action next week when they host the Texas A&M Aggies.
