For the first time in the history of the program, the Georgia Bulldogs have had a player selected first overall in the NBA Draft.
The Minnesota Timberwolves opened the 2020 NBA Draft Wednesday evening by selecting the Georgia guard, making him the highest-selected Bulldog since Dominique Wilkins went third overall in the 1982 draft. Edwards also becomes the first SEC player taken first overall since Ben Simmons in 2015.
Edwards was the SEC’s Freshman of the Year this past season, leading the Bulldogs with 19.1 points per game to go along with 5.2 rebounds and 1.3 steals per game. Georgia finished 16-16.
