LAST WEEK
Kentucky: The Wildcats got in the win column with a 24-2 thumping of Mike Leach’s Mississippi State Bulldogs, recording six interceptions along the way.
Tennessee: The Vols took their first loss of the season as the Georgia Bulldogs cruised to a 44-21 home victory.
Things couldn’t have gone differently a week ago for these two teams. Kentucky’s ravenous defensive effort led to one of Mike Leach’s worse offensive outputs as a head coach and brought everyone back to earth with regards to Mississippi State while realizing Mark Stoops’ bunch looks as good as usual on the defensive side of the ball. Can the Wildcats keep it rolling against a UT offense that has struggled to find consistency this year?
To Tennessee’s credit, they hung with Georgia for a half last week. The Bulldogs came out of the locker room after the break and really clamped down, forcing three turnovers, three punts, and a turnover on downs in Tennessee’s seven second half drives. Saturday’s game against Kentucky really will come down to which Vols team shows up on offense. If it’s the one we saw in the first half Saturday, Tennessee should be able to pick up a victory. Being at home should help the Vols, as well. They’ve won five straight games at Neyland and allowed just three touchdowns in their last 14 quarters at home.
