Vandy and Ole Miss square off in Oxford

Can the ‘Dores pick up their first SEC win or will Ole Miss move to 2-1?

NCAA Football: South Carolina at Tennessee Randy Sartin-USA TODAY Sports

Fresh off their first win of the season, the Vanderbilt Commodores (1-3, 0-2) head to Oxford to face off with the Ole Miss Rebels (2-3, 1-1).

Vanderbilt defeated Northern Illinois last week to become the final SEC team to get in the win column this season. The game wasn’t particularly competitive, despite the 24-18 final score. Vandy went up by 14 early, and held on throughout.

Ole Miss’ week last week was a bit more stressful. After going up 10-7 against Alabama in the first quarter, the Rebels got outscored 31-0 in the second frame, en route to a 59-31 loss.

So, what will happen this week? It will likely come down to which defense can step up. There are dynamic playmakers on both offenses (Ke’Shawn Vaughn for Vandy, Elijah Moore and Scottie Phillips for Ole Miss) and neither defense has been particularly impressive this season. Either one side will step up and make stops, or we’ll be in for a high-scoring affair.
