Atlanta is the mecca of college football in the South, and the annual Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game has become one of the premier games to start the season.

While a plethora of future Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games that include several marquee match ups has already been announced, one of them stands out above the rest because it includes the installment of an historic rivalry game between two SEC and ACC powers.

On Friday, the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game announced that Georgia and Clemson would face off to open the 2024 season at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

The Bulldogs and the Tigers, separated by about 70 miles, have met 64 times on the gridiron, with Georgia leading the series comfortably at 42-18-4. The programs first played each other in 1897.

Since 2000, the teams have played four times, most recently in 2014 which Georgia won 45-21 in the second game of a home-and-home series that started in 2013 with a 38-25 Clemson victory in Death Valley.

The 2024 game will mark the ninth neutral site contest in series history. The 1916 contest took place in Anderson, SC after being played in Augusta, GA for seven seasons.

This is a rivalry we’re glad to see coming back...in six years.
