Good things come to those who wait.
Nick Saban’s afternoon could’ve been better. After losing out on not one, but two wide receivers (in-state Justyn Ross being one), an offensive tackle and a defensive end, Saban will at least be walking up to the podium today with a final bit of good news.
4-star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, an electrifying athlete out of Bellaire, TX, chose the Alabama Crimson Tide over the in-state favorite Texas A&M Aggies. And considering the day Fisher has had, it wasn’t farfetched to believe Waddle would stay home.
The allure of seeing not one, but three true freshmen receivers, though, including one who reeled in the winning touchdown in the national championship, was probably enough to swing the pendulum in Alabama’s favor.
If you watch the above highlights you will glean enough information about the type of player Waddle is. He’s on the shorter side for a receiver, so he will most likely play the slot at the next level, but he clearly lines up wherever his team needs him to.
And considering how poor Alabama’s punt returning was in 2017, Waddle might be just the player to reenergize that phase of the game.
No matter what the position, new Alabama OC Mike Locksley has what looks to be a dynamic athlete to work with in 2018.
Congrats to Waddle and his family!
