Texas A&M finally beats LSU in a 7 OT classic

The best SEC game of the year was the last SEC game of the year

Kendrick Rogers caught the two point conversion from Kellen Mond to finish off an instant classic after seven overtimes and five hours of football in favor of Texas A&M 74-72. This game set the record for most points in a FBS college football game. Texas A&M moves to 8-4 on the season and 5-3 in conference, while LSU falls to 9-3 and 5-3 in conference.

LSU thought they had the game won late in the fourth after it appeared they had intercepted a pass from Mond, Ed Orgeron was even doused in Gatorade. Replay showed though that Mond’s knee had touched the ground picking up a snap he fumbled. Mond came up huge afterword and on the last play of the regulation he completed a 19 yard touchdown pass to Quartney Davis to tie the game up at 31 to send the game to overtime. The game would have been a good one even without the overtimes however it went seven so lets recap baseball style

Top first: LSU went nowhere losing seven yards and Colt Tracy booted a 50 yarder.

Bottom first: A&M had first and goal at the LSU one yard line. The LSU defense held though and Seth Small tied it up on a 23 yard field goal.

Top second: Trayveon Williams ran it for 17 yards and then five yards, Mond found pay dirt from three yards out and it was 41-34.

Bottom second: On fourth and two from the three Nick Brossette got into the endzone and the game was tied back up at 41.

Top Third (forced to go for two from now on) On the first play found Dee Anderson caught a ball from Joe Burrow for a touchdown and the two point conversion was good when Burrow found Justin Jefferson. 49-41

Bottom Third: On the second play after an incomplete Mond pass, Mond found overtime hero Kendrick Rogers on one of the most incredible catches of the season (seriously look at catch again) and Rogers also caught the two point conversion. 49 all

Top Fourth: The Aggies again had first goal on the eight and third goal at the four but where unable to convert and Seth Small again hit the field goal. 52-49

Bottom Fourth: The Tigers also had first and goal at the eight but were unable to convert anything and Colt Tracy booted it in from 26 yards. 52-52

Top Fifth: LSU was tricky tricky and Clyde Edwards-Helaire passed it to Tory Carter but the two point conversion failed. 58-52

Bottom of the fifth: After getting it down to the five, A&M found themselves in fourth and goal from the six. Mond found Rogers to tie the game up again, and like LSU the Aggies did not get the two point conversion. 58-58

Top sixth: On the first play Mond completed a pass to Jace Stemberger for the touchdown and Rogers caught the two point conversion. 66-58

Bottom sixth. On third and six Burrow found Justin Jefferson for a 17 yard touchdown, and then Burrow got the ball to Dee Anderson for the two point conversion. 66-66

Top seventh: After a pass interference call on A&M, Joe Burrow ran it from ten yards out, but they failed on two point conversion. 72-66

Bottom seventh: After a questionable pass interference call, where the ball may have not been catchable, and then an unsportsmanlike call on LSU, A&M tied it up. The two point conversion was good to Rogers and A&M won a classic.

This is a big win for the Aggies, beating LSU for the first time since they joined the conference in 2012, giving Jimbo Fisher a signature win in his first year and giving the program some momentum. Kellen Mond was a gamer in this game only going 23/49 but threw for six touchdowns, on the ground he had twenty carries for 42 yards and a touchdown. Trayveon Williams took the ball 35 times for 198 yards and two touchdowns in another monster game from him. On the LSU side the story of the game was Joe Burrow, he went 25/38 for 270 yards and three touchdowns, he also carried the ball 29 times for 100 yards.

LSU and Texas A&M both will wait a couple weeks to see where they are going to play in a bowl game where I guarantee the game won’t be as good as this one.
