Florida, Texas A&M, Auburn and Tennessee featured in first D1 Softball Committee Top 10

The SEC holds three of the first five spots, including the one at the very top.

The Division 1 Softball Committee revealed their first Top 10 rankings of the season on Saturday night and it comes as no surprise that the Southeastern Conference is well represented.

Four teams from the conference find themselves in the Top 10 with three of them occupying the first five spots. This includes the very top spot, which the Florida Gators currently have a hold of. Down at No. 3 is where the Texas A&M Aggies find themselves and the Auburn Tigers stand at No. 5.

After that, you’d have to go down to No. 9 to find the next team from the SEC, as the Tennessee Volunteers, who just won their 20th game in a row on Saturday, have that spot locked down.

Other teams featured in the Top 10 include the Arizona Wildcats (2), Florida State Seminoles (4), Washington Huskies (6), Oregon Ducks (7), Minnesota Golden Gophers (8) and UCLA Bruins (10).

Essentially, this gives us a look at where these teams stand with Selection Sunday looming in the not-so-distant future. It may not have any bearing when that time comes, but it at least gives us some insight as to what the selection committee is feeling at the moment. For these teams of the SEC, it should prove to be a sense of comfort that the league has four teams in the Top 10, as a strong league could give way to an assortment of bids.

Per the NCAA.com article, we’ll next hear from the committee on May 6. Selection Sunday, meanwhile, is May 14, so we’ve still got plenty of time for there to be some reshuffling.
