So, essentially, this shouldn’t prove to be nothing more than a walk in the park.
The above remark comes from the game preview for Mississippi State’s game vs. Charleston Southern.
A walk in the park it was.
Thanks to three touchdowns from Nick Fitzgerald - two through the air, one on the ground - and contributions from others like Aeris Williams and Dontavian Lee, the Bulldogs are 1-0 after their 49-0 thumping of the Buccaneers.
35 of State’s 49 points were scored in the first half. Four of them came via two safeties, as the Bulldogs were apparently adamant in trying to score any way they could.
WHAT WE LEARNED
NICK FITZGERALD PLAYED THE PART
Fitzgerald flashed the abilities that made many call him one of the best quarterbacks in the conference. He threw 239 yards and rushed for 41, picking up 5.9 yards per carry. It was a breeze for Fitzgerald, who accomplished two things:
1) Play well
2) Not get hurt
Job well done.
AERIS WILLIAMS LOOKS READY
The Bulldogs running back is shouldering the load this year. He’ll have some complementary players around him, for sure. Kylin Hill for one, who picked up 62 yards on 6.9 yards per carry. But Williams picked up 83 yards to start things off in 2017, finding the end zone once as well. Tougher tasks will lie ahead. But, Williams certainly passed the first test.
NO ONE GOT HURT, SO OPTIMUM HEALTH WAS ACHIEVED
Week 1 goals were accomplished. On to the next one.
