Last week, MAC commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said he thought that an early signing period would be coming for football. After long discussion this week, the powers that be put it off:
Breaking: There will not be an #EarlySigningPeriod for #CFB. The Collegiate Commissioners Association has tabled decision for one year.

The SEC will be pleased at this result, as it was the only major conference to speak out against the early signing period. There are a lot of reasons why the league thinks it could be a bad idea. Some are on the athlete side, like potentially making players go through signing during finals or their high school playoffs. Some are on the schools' side, like the fact that a school won't have the fall semester grades to look at for anyone who does sign in December.
Delaying the issue isn't killing it, but this idea will have longer to bake before it comes up for a vote.
Sankey and Delany want to revamp the whole recruiting calendar if they're going to do an early signing day. That's why this one didn't pass.
