Why the 1997 Independence Bowl? Plenty of reasons: 1. It's from the Poulan/Weedeater era, the gold standard of terrible corporate bowl sponsorships. Just short of two minutes in, you get a great field shot of the Notre Dame logo and the Weedeater logo together. Priceless. 2. LSU is wearing gold jerseys and white helmets. It's almost disorienting to see, and they look like Tennessee in the wide shots thanks to the poor color balance. 3. Notre Dame's Ron Powlus, who Beano Cook predicted would win two Heismans, is playing in the Weedeater Bowl. 4. Some guy runs on the field and gets tackled by police. 5. Rondell Mealey rushing for 222 yards, a performance that landed him in the Independence Bowl Hall of Fame this winter. Yes, that Rondell Mealey. 6.
