The Arkansas Razorbacks have named their starting quarterback for the 2019 season opener. Ben Hicks is the man who’ll begin the opener against Portland State under center, as per head coach Chad Morris who made the announcement on Monday morning.
Ben Hicks will be our starting QB in week 1.

Hicks beat out Texas A&M Aggies transfer Nick Starkel for the starting job. Starkel came into the Razorbacks program with plenty of experience under his belt with the Aggies. So did Hicks of course, as he came into the Arkansas program after playing in 37 games for the SMU Mustangs over the last three seasons. In the end, Morris decided to go with Hicks over Morris. But given the opponent, it’s likely we’ll still see Starkel in action on Saturday. But he won’t be the man to begin the game.
Hicks amassed 9,081 passing yards on 1,266 attempts at SMU, completing 56.7 percent of his passes. He threw 71 touchdowns to 34 interceptions in his time with the Mustangs,.
