With just a few seconds remaining in the 2019 Egg Bowl, Elijah Moore dove into the end zone to put the Ole Miss Rebels in position to tie the game. Moore would then crawl along in the end zone, mockingly ‘pissing’ on the field like a dog.
Unfortunately for the Rebels... such an act did not humor the officials, who flagged Moore for excessive celebration. That promptly set the extra point attempt back several yards. And, you guessed it: That extra point was promptly missed, and the Mississippi State Bulldogs would celebrate a 21-20 victory in a wild Egg Bowl as a result.
State booted their way out to a 14-0 lead in the early goings. A Nick Gibson 27-yard score to cap off a four-play, 72-yard drive got them going halfway through the first quarter. Then, Garrett Shrader would punch it in after a 13-play, 74-yard rive culminated with Shrader’s one-yard sneak into the end zone.
The Rebels would promptly answer with a lengthy drive of their own. John Rhys Plumlee scored on a two-yard run to finish off a 10-play 81-yard drive later on in the second quarter. Before the half was over, Jerrion Ealy ran in from five yards out to tie the game on up.
Shrader found the end zone later on in the third quarter, with 3:24 to play in the frame. His five-yard score put the Bulldogs on top, and the extra point from Jace Christmann proved mighty pivotal in the end to say the least.
As a result of the W, State will now be bowl eligible. Ole Miss, meanwhile, finishes out at 4-8 and weren’t able to end their in-state adversary’s season on a sour note.
